Founded by Peter and Dr. Sue Hua Newton in 1977, Newton Vineyard has been a standard-bearer for Spring Mountain wines. Using indigenous yeasts and, in the case of The Puzzle, fermented from individually picked microblocks on the esate (112 of them!), Newton's wines are extraordinarily site expressive and individual. In '02, The Puzzle, Newton's iconic Bordeaux blend, has super-saturated flavors of creme de cassis and kirsch, with ripe, velvety tannins. Hard to find in most stores, thanks to wine critics' raves.
